Since RAW files are in a proprietary format, there aren't all that many tools that can work with them. and only after that, apply a color correction setup as a batch to all the frames. I would like to have all the frames of a timelapse perfectly aligned as if you would lay all the frames on top of each other.

If I then desire to add modifications across all the frames,I can easily copy the color correction/filters, mods across all the batch PS files and then export each frame as a file, say in a format easily capable for importing into a video application for final edit. #6 all I then need is to align the end frames of the batches-hence the ease of just aligning the marker layer I created. (I save each aligned batch as a separate PS file for ease). (of course one can modify this workflow with automation processes in any point as task needed)ĥ I repeat the process with other batches of X number of frames (for ex: 7 batches of 60 frames =420 frames). #4 I hand nudge the frames into perfect position given my requirements. that allows the shared referent points in each image to be easily discerned. After alignment I can delete the adjustments. #3 I create an adjustment layer/layers with excessive contrast/sharpening etc. #2 I Often find a well-defined referent point shared in the images and create a marker layer I can turn on/off (eyeball icon). #1 I upload only X number of files that the computer I'm using can handle given system memory and processor in PS. Here's a workflow I use that gives me consistent results with my insane quality requirements: I have tried importing all the files in Photoshop (CS6) as layers, but then performing the align feature over the +400 images just ends up stalling photoshop forever until I have to force quit because nothing is happening.įWIW I often hand-roto some footage in PS, I understand your memory issue. Is this possible, and what would be the workflow ? I'm on Mac. dng format or something raw, so that I can edit them afterwards, and even apply selective corrections to parts of the image on the whole batch with the corrections staying in the exact same places. So I'd like the raw files to be aligned, but to stay in.

I need to align all the raw files of a timelapse before doing their color correction in lightroom. Have you seen these Photoshop tutorials on aligning images? I wonder if the BBC or Oxford Scientific Films has books or tutorials on how they shoot timelapse photography? I haven't gotten to the point where I am using a slider or moving the camera during the time lapse. Even though the light may change, living things will move, the planet turn, and cut flowers will droop, the geometry of the composition does not and seeign those changes i nthe ones I have done adds to the charm of the sequence. So far when I have shot time lapse Ithe camera position is locked down on a tripod and focus point is fixed as well. I'm sorry if this is way too boring or doesn't make sense if that's not what you're trying to do too lol In my case I would like to have all the frames of a timelapse perfectly aligned as if you would lay all the frames on top of each other, they would be pixel-perfectly at the same spot, and only after that, apply a color correction setup as a batch to all the frames. Does this refer to how the images were visually framed and composed or to some digital quality of the files?ĭigital quality of the files, incorporating much more visual information than almost any other formats, allowing for advanced editing manipulations.

Is there any Windows software that can do this? I am getting close to thinking I would have to custom-build it but it seems really likely to me that there's some tool out there that does it since there's so many people making time lapses.I am ignorant in this area and do not understand what you mean by “aligning” the raw files.

I also tried Premiere Pro and applied the Warp Stabilizer effect and specified "No motion" but it still moved around a bit.

But took a ton of memory and ran for several days without results when I tried on my full set of images.

I found some tutorials about aligning images in Photoshop, so I tried the Creative Cloud trial and found that loading the images in as layers and aligning an image stack worked really well for 20 images and made them line up perfectly. It seems suited for panoramic stitching or focus stacking but not for extended timelapses.

That seemed promising, until I ran it and it was still going without any output for 3 days. I found some other questions about it ( Easiest way to auto-align a stack of images?, What open source software for auto-alignment of photographs?) that point to hugin and align_image_stack.exe. Right now there are 450 of size 4000x3000.

I'd like to align them all and crop a bit off the edges so they are stable for a timelapse. I've taken a picture of my yard every day for a while now, all from the same angle.
